Displacement

So, no liquids on the aeroplanes. Will it stop people who were going to blow up the airplanes using liquids from doing so? Maybe, at least for a few days. The hold is pressurized; it seems likely that if you were willing to blow yourself up with a bomb between your legs you'd be equally willing to blow yourself up with a bomb twenty feet under your butt. The technology necessary to trigger such a thing should be relatively straightforward. Of course, you could always just use a timer on the checked-luggage bomb and skip the blowing yourself up bit entirely.

But say you actually keep the Gatorade-bombers and their Gatorade-bombs off the plane? They've still got the things and still want to use them. There's nothing inherent about planes that makes them extra-stupendous terror targets. Setting your bomb off, say, at a crowded airport security checkpoint would probably work just as well, and create even more security hassles (do you pre-screen people before the screening?). Or you could set it off on the subway, or in Times Square etc ad infinitum.

Or, you could, say, pursue policies that reduce the number of people interested in blowing you up in the first place.

Incidentally, this is the stupidest thing i've read so far today.
